A Squirrel in your next Super Bowl of Chips?           505  Views

Now that you are replete with your Super Bowl of junk food today and feeling slightly guilty, don't!  Someone out there is actually out to convince you fried potatoes are actually healthy. Healthier than rice and pasta, if you are willing to believe the following news report from the UK:

"Chips are rich in vitamin C which boffins believe battle killer cancer. It is thought the vitamin tackles dangerous free radicals which are associated with cancer growth.

By scoffing a portion of chips – which contains five times more vitamin C than a bunch of grapes – Brits may keep cancer at bay. And those already suffering with the disease could even shrink the size of their tumours with a vitamin C rich, deep-fried potato diet...

Nutritionist Fiona Hunter said..“Chips contribute vitamin C, which is a powerful anti-oxidant that neutralises the free radicals and stops them from damaging us.”

A 175g portion of chips contains three times more vitamin C than an apple and nine times more than a slice of pizza, say researchers...Chips also contain a host of other nutrients including vitamins B1 and B6, fibre and iron."  Daily Star

Great news, if chips weren't loaded with fat and preservatives. Or, mostly, if the process of making them at high heat did not produce a known carcinogen, Acrylamide.

And, about that squirrel in your bowl?  The next time you get thinking about your Super Bowl snacks, you might actually find yourself weighing in between Cajun squirrel flavored chips and the salt and vinegar. That is, should the British public decide this flavor, over others like onion bhaji, fish and chips, builder's breakfast (bacon and eggs) and Peking duck, best represents the 21st century. At any rate, which ever makes the popularity vote will go into full-time production soon, netting the creator of the flavor about $73,000 and 1% of all sales for life! The Independent
